I purchased a Hawk 6 motor and am wondering if anyone could explain proper break in procedures of the motor. Also for what I read the motor is slower than the Hawk 7 right from the get go. Do you need to replace the brushes right away and are the Gold ones the way to go? I am also looking for someone to explain the gearing process. could I make the slower 6 faster than the 7 just by changing the gears? Thanks in advance any advise would be helpful.

It is printed on the back of the card. If I remember correctly it is 10-15 minutes at 5 volts. JK does not recommend break in under water. I like to use Gold Dust brushes. Some guys like Big Foot II brushes. I think both are very good. Replace them before break in. As far as gear ratio's, again I think it is printed on the card a limit as to not over gearing. I have attached a chart for you which lists gear choices. Just like your real car... The lower the ratio number, the higher the speed on a long straightaway. Just remember to check motor temp when going with a lower numerical gear ratio. You will overheat and fry the motor in no time. That is why JK gives you a cutoff ratio. To add to the confusion tire diameter, motor type, track layout (length of straightaways) and driving style are also things to factor in when deciding. There is no substitute for testing. Thank you for the input. I appreciate the chart and I know testing is the only way.. thanks for the tip of changing the brushes first I wouldn't of thought of that.

Why do you replace them before break in? AD (obviously a n00b) .
